The brief

RustConf needed to establish a durable, multi-year brand system — one that can evolve annually without a full redesign each year.

The existing branding was recognisable within the Rust ecosystem, but overly tied to a single location and lacking the flexibility to scale across multiple years, themes, and formats. The objective was to build a cohesive, future-proof visual identity deployable across both print and digital touch points.

The Craftsman Engineer

The chosen direction positions RustConf around a Craftsman / Engineer concept that speaks directly to its core audience of developers. The visual system reflects the values of the Rust community: precision, reliability, and a craft-led approach to building.

The designs are calm, measured, and intentional — much like good systems engineering. Clarity, hierarchy, and structure take precedence over decoration, signalling that this is a conference for serious practitioners rather than hype-driven tech events.

It was a delight working with the Lucas Media team on our conference rebrand from start to finish. They were quick at grasping our needs and unique audience. The end result was a modern, distinctive, and more functional website and new brand kit that better reflects the history and future of our conference. I’d highly recommend Lucas Media to any company in need of a rebrand, especially those that cater to a savvy developer audience.
